One area of advocacy that is easily overlooked is interactions with the agencies that regulate and have other types of influence on the P/C industry. Agencies like the Indiana Department of Insurance can have nearly as much impact on the day-to-day operations of insurance agencies as the legislature. This is where the Big I Indiana, again, has our members’ backs.

The Indiana Department of Insurance is charged with regulating the insurance industry. It interprets and enforces the laws that are passed by the legislature and implements numerous rules and regulations that are designed to do a multitude of things, including making sure consumers are protected and the licensure of insurance agents. The Big I Indiana has forged a strong relationship with IDOI Commissioner Amy Beard and her staff to be a resource for them when they have questions about how a law or rule will impact independent agents.

This strong relationship with the Insurance Commissioner and IDOI staff not only helps when legislation is being considered and implemented, but also allows the Big I Indiana to step in and help when member agencies experience issues.
