Federal Government Affairs

While the insurance industry is regulated on the state level, advocacy on the federal level is imperative to ensure that the independent agency community is protected from federal proposals that could have a detrimental impact on our industry.

The Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA or Big “I”) employs one of the most influential and well respected lobbying teams in the country. Senior VP of government affairs Nathan Riedel and his team work nearly around the clock with the US Congress, Senate, and other federal agencies to protect the interests of independent agents across the country.

The Big I’s list of accomplishments is impressive, including getting the 20% small business deduction for pass-through entities passed in the 2017 Trump tax cut package. This tax cut has resulted in literally millions of dollars in tax savings for Big I members in Indiana and countrywide.
